Definitive closure of our production plants in Malaysia and China
Resonac Graphite BU has recently decided to close its sites in Malaysia (Resonac Graphite Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.) and China (Showa Denko Sichuan Carbon Inc.), with immediate effect as of May 15th.
These two facilities have been particularly impacted by the lack of home market and the lack of protection from unfair competition stemming from overproduction and below-cost pricing, which has intensified in recent years. Therefore, it is impossible for us, and even other traditional electrode suppliers, to compete in markets where fair competition is not given.
Resonac Graphite Business Unit will maintain its global presence and its ability to serve current and potential customers in the future, offering products of the highest quality and a genuine commitment to sustainability at all levels - economic, environmental and social.
These measures will help our business become more competitive and, therefore, emerge stronger from this situation.

Resonac’s graphite electrodes are produced globally at six locations, and delivered to customers around the world. Our regional presence enables short lead times and reliable supply chains - ensuring that our customers’ needs are met quickly and efficiently.
